Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham are speaking to each other again – is there a Fleetwood Mac reunion coming up?
In the new episode of the music documentary “Song Exploder” Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham met – at least indirectly. The two talked about the creation of their song “Frozen Love,” which they recorded for their 1973 album BUCKINGHAM NICKS. It became clear: after years of silence, there is contact again.

“Frozen Love” – a modern tragedy
According to Nicks, the song “Frozen Love” describes a complicated love full of ups and downs. “Nobody really loves happy songs,” says the singer in the documentary. “I certainly don’t – and neither does Lindsey.” Buckingham added: “Our relationship was difficult, but what we created together was worth it.”
What then came out: The two artists recently met to talk about their song “Frozen Love,” as “Parade” reported. The 1973 album BUCKINGHAM NICKS was reissued in September 2025 – including the track “Frozen Love”.
See you again at Christine McVie’s memorial service
Nicks and Buckingham last spoke in 2022, when they briefly met at Christine McVie’s memorial service. The reason for the strained relationship was a public dispute in 2018 after Buckingham was expelled from Fleetwood Mac. He claimed at the time that Nicks forced the band to choose between them.
In the show “Song Exploder” Nicks and Buckingham – interviewed separately – then reminisced about the early days of their careers. Nicks emphasized that they were in touch again. So perhaps a Fleetwood Mac reunion is imminent.
Positive words for each other
The long-term relationship between the two was enriching. Nicks described it as “constantly up and down, difficult but fantastic at the same time”. In the documentary she also joked about a lyric error in “Frozen Love”. The line “Hate gave you me for a lover” was actually supposed to read “Fate gave you me for a lover”. It’s easy to misunderstand when singing, the songwriter explained, adding: “That’s not good, I’ll call him later.” “Him” probably meant Buckingham.
Buckingham & Nicks: This is how we used to work together
The two first met in 1966 at a youth group event at Menlo-Atherton High School, where they sang the hit “California Dreamin'” together. A few years later they joined the band Fritz and officially met. Despite supporting appearances for well-known acts, the band failed to get a record deal. After this “first big disappointment in the music business,” as Nicks explained in an interview, they broke up the band. This created room for something new – and the love affair between Nicks and Buckingham began.
By forming Buckingham Nicks – that was the name of the duo before joining Fleetwood Mac – the two dealt with the ups and downs of their relationship. According to Nicks, the song “Frozen Love” is about “two people who were in love, had a lot of differences and perceived the world a little differently, but had a relationship that felt like a gift.” Nicks took care of the lyrics, Buckingham took care of the instrumentalization and production. The musician summed up the duo’s creative process: “She understood that I was changing things for her, and I understood that I couldn’t have changed anything without the wonderful foundation she gave me.”
However, they did not provide any specific information about a reunion in the documentary.
