Actually, Apple’s new AirPods Pro 3 (approx. 240 euros) should simply provide peace and quiet for listening to music – noise canceling, transparency mode, flawless sound. But for many buyers, the latest model provides anything but relaxation: Instead of gentle silence, users report an annoying whistling sound that becomes noticeable when inserting or touching the earphones.
In forums like “Reddit” there are increasing reports of high, sometimes piercing frequencies, which for some only occur on one side, for others on both – regardless of whether active noise cancellation or transparency mode is activated. A clear trigger is not yet known.
Some users suspect that the new noise-cancelling technology causes acoustic feedback. Others consider incorrect pressure equalization or a particularly tight fit of the silicone attachments to be responsible. The result remains the same: a whistle that doesn’t sound like “Pro” at all.
Apple is silent – community is looking for solutions
Apple has not yet officially commented on the problem. Meanwhile, the community is looking for workarounds: change ear tips, reposition the AirPods, perform a reset. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn’t.
Many are now hoping for a firmware update that will finally eliminate the whistling. When (and if) it will come is unclear. If the problem persists, users will ultimately only be able to exchange the item under the guarantee or return it.
