Elvira Öberg is one of the best biathletes in the world. The Swede has now revealed some tips on how best to deal with the pressure in competitive sports.

Olympic gold with the Swedish relay team, reigning world champion in the mass start and numerous other medals: Elvira Öberg is currently one of the biggest biathlon stars.

According to her own statement, the 26-year-old tries to keep the pressure off herself as much as possible before important competitions.

“I’ve been working on getting into this competition and focus bubble as late as possible and leaving it pretty quickly, otherwise I can’t stand it and am completely mentally exhausted after two or three competitions. It’s about using mental energy sparingly,” Öberg explained her approach in a documentary series on the Swedish TV channel “SVT”.

The ski hunter also revealed that video games help her mentally relax. “The funny thing was that I shot so badly at the beginning of a season that I started playing and then shot much better,” said Öberg.

Biathlon Olympic champion “focuses on the positive things”

A big highlight is on the program for the coming biathlon season with the 2026 Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

“You concentrate on the positive things. I’m also going into these Olympic Games with the thought that I’ve already won Olympic medals,” said Öberg, looking ahead to the spectacle.

In 2022, the Scandinavian won the gold medal with the Swedish relay team in Beijing. There was also Olympic silver in the sprint and silver in the pursuit.

Öberg goes into the coming winter as one of the favorites. In the previous season, Öberg finished fourth in the overall World Cup behind Franziska Preuß, Lou Jeanmonnot and Julia Simon.
