Member of Parliament for Welfare remains hopeful of NSC’s continued existence in the House of Representatives

New Social Contract (NSC) assumes that the party will continue in the House of Representatives. This was said by MP Merlien Welzijn (51) at the party’s results evening in the Observant in Amersfoort. Welfare is third on the list of the party founded by Pieter Omtzigt in 2023. “I only assume one scenario. That we continue,” said the politician.
Welfare admitted that the contrast with two years ago is great. At the time, the party came from nowhere with twenty seats in the House of Representatives. NSC was part of the Schoof cabinet, together with the PVV, VVD and BBB. Party leader Pieter Omtzigt withdrew from politics in April. Four months later, NSC left the government.

Under the leadership of party leader Eddy van Hijum, the party fell far back. According to polls, NSC would win at most one seat. “These are still polls. I keep hope. It is especially important that the NSC ideas continue to live,” Welzijn said on Wednesday evening. “I’m counting on that.”
