An inland vessel collided with a work vessel in the Afrikahaven on Sunday around 6 p.m. This caused the work vessel to become submerged and the two people on board went missing.
Sonar boats and several diving teams were used to search for the victims. A police helicopter also flew above the water for a long time. That same evening, the rescue operation was stopped and a spokesperson for the Safety Region said that it was unlikely that the two were still alive.
In recent days, specialized police units have continued to search for the missing. How the collision could have happened is being further investigated.
The boat of the Koperen Ploeg in which the two sailed was removed from the water last night and recovered. De Koperen Ploeg is involved in the mooring and unmooring of ships in the Amsterdam port area. The inland vessel, which until now had to remain in the port for investigation, has now left. The people on board are very upset, they told an AT5 reporter on site.
