Hockey legend Timo Jutila, who travels a lot for his work, had one significant problem with his eating habits.

Ice hockey legend Timo Jutila, 61, used to pop a lot of chocolate and there was room for improvement in his eating routine.

Then he got an invitation You are what you eat program and comprehensive lifestyle renovation under the leadership of doctor Pippa Lauka.

– The e-mail came and the wife read it and we thought, why not.

– Quite interesting. The issue was that my wife eats 6–7 times a day and I only eat once. We went to chop this up with Pipa and I gladly accepted the challenge.

– A couple of hundred days a year, when those travel chores have to be done, we only went with one meal and we immediately wanted a change and we got it.

Jutila has previously told Iltalehte about significant changes in her lifestyle. Already last fall, he said, for example, that he had stopped eating chocolate completely and started exercising regularly.

The weight also dropped by twenty kilos already last year. Jutila does not yet reveal the readings after participating in the program, but there has been a change.

– That’s all I can say, that carrots and peppers are used quite a lot these days.

In addition to diet, Jutila says that she struggled for a long time with getting enough sleep. He suffers too from sleep apnea i.e. breathing interruptions during sleep, as a result of which sleep can remain superficial and interrupted.

– Anyway, I’m terribly bad at sleeping and I still am, but that sleep has improved now. It’s really hard to fall asleep, so then I watch those NHL games and at some point that sleep comes.

– The living situation has improved and it has probably been exactly what we were looking for here, Jutila sums up.

Despite the diet update, one thing is certain for the popularly known “griller” – the grilling will continue.

– Absolutely, you have to laugh. Yes, meat is still grilled and sausage is grilled, but those vegetables have really come along. There’s a little more to the grill, paprika and big steak tomatoes and pineapple. Good changes have been made, but of course the rilla will continue.

The former ice hockey player has been playing a very trendy sport for a couple of years now. He previously said that he started functional Hyrox training in early 2024, which combines running and strength training. For example Iltalehti and Over have announced in August 2025 that this method of training will become “explosively” popular.

Jutila has been on the wave crest of the trendy sport for a long time and has seen its share in the increase in popularity.

– First there were five of us who started and now there are twenty of us there on a regular basis.

– It’s absolutely fantastic. They don’t pull the strings or hold meetings there, but that’s when things are done. There you can adjust and do it yourself when there are certain injuries. I already have bad knees myself, so you don’t have to do all of them, but there will also be replacement movements.

– It probably has the most effect between the ears. In the almanac, when you fill in that at that time we will go to train, then we will go. It’s an important thing, Jutila enthuses.
