FFrancesca Barra reported the circulation of fake images of her naked, created with artificial intelligence and disseminated on a portal dedicated to adult content. The discovery, which occurred in the last few hours, prompted the journalist and writer to make a public intervention on social media and to formally report it to the authorities.

Francesca Barra and the naked photos created with AI

“I discovered yesterday that naked images of me, generated with artificial intelligence, are circulating on an adult site,” Barra wrote in a post on Instagram. The photos, completely invented, would have been made for generate attention and insinuate doubts about his professional behavior, in particular in the Mediaset environments and during the collaboration with Piero Chiambretti.

The author expressed deep concern for the possible effects on loved ones: “I thought of my children and felt embarrassed and afraid for what they might hear or read, if those images had ended up in the wrong hands.” He called the episode «a violence and abuse that marks dignity, reputation, trust”underlining how it is «a theft of the image, of the body, of the freedom to be seen as one is — not as an algorithm or a malicious mind decides to represent us.”

Beyond the personal case: a phenomenon that affects all women

Francesca Barra extended the reflection to a broader problem, addressing the younger generations: «I thought of everyone’s daughters and sons, of the girls who suffer the same digital violence and who perhaps don’t have the same tools as me to defend themselves or the strength to react.”. For her, technologies “should be instruments of progress, not of oppression”, but too often end up becoming “weapons: of manipulation, of shame, of destruction of identity”.

The journalist, who recently discussed a thesis in criminology on cyberbullying, reiterated: «My assumption is that Cyberbullying is not a problem among children, but a reflection of our collective fragilities”. And he added: «This is not just my story, but the prelude to a danger that concerns everyone. No woman, no girl should be faced with an invented body and feel hurt twice: in the image and with impunity.”.

Francesca Barra’s legal action and appeal to the collective conscience

In an interview with the news agency Handlethe journalist confirmed that she had filed a complaint: «The lawyer is filing a complaint and it will soon be presented to the prosecutor’s office”. He chose not to indicate the name of the forum to avoid amplifying the violence, but underlined the importance of consensus: «The problem is not being naked, undressing or having the freedom of how you show your body. The problem is that no one can use it, make it an object and not have your consent.”

A positive aspect that emerged was the report received from a man: «I’m happy that it was a man who reported the photos to me, because it means that men are finally becoming aware that it’s not a game but a crime”. Barra launched a transversal appeal: «I make an appeal to politicians and policies for a battle that is also political because it concerns the common good. In addition to repression, education and culture, we need a network, an alliance between all the parties.”

The Postal Police announced the start of investigations on the SocialMediaGirls.com portal, where the contents were generated with AI.

The fight against deepfakes

Cases like that of Francesca Barra highlight the risks involved to the abuse of artificial intelligence in the creation of non-consensual images. The dissemination of manipulated material not only violates privacy, but fuels morbidity and destroys reputations, affecting women in particular.

The journalist decided to speak publicly “for those who do not have the tools to tell, to report out of a sense of shame or modesty”. His voice joins that of many other personalities calling for stricter laws and greater responsibility from digital platforms.
