Juventus Turin is drawing the consequences after a long series without a win. Coach Igor Tudor has been released after seven months.
A few days after the disappointing 0-1 loss at Lazio Rome, Juventus parted ways with coach Igor Tudor. The Croatian’s exit follows a phase of sporting success in which the team was unable to win in eight competitive games. The Italians’ offense was particularly weak – in the last four games the team failed to score their own goal. The result: The actual top club slipped to eighth place in Serie A.
The team has also been disappointing on the international stage recently. In the Champions League, Juve couldn’t get more than a 4-4 draw in a spectacular game against Borussia Dortmund, then only played a draw against Villareal (2-2) and lost at Real Madrid (0-1). The sporting leadership therefore now pulled the ripcord. On Monday, the club wrote in a statement: “The club would like to thank Igor Tudor and all his employees for the professionalism and commitment they have shown in recent months.”
Massimo Brambilla will be in charge of the next league game against Udine. The coach of the third division team Juventus is temporarily taking over responsibility for the professionals. According to media reports, Luciano Spalletti, Roberto Mancini and Raffaele Palladino are among the candidates for successor.
Most recently, a report in the Italian newspaper “Tuttosport” also focused on former Bundesliga coaches Marco Rose and Edin Terzić. Marco Rose in particular seems to play a role in the club’s management’s considerations. The former coach of Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig recently spoke publicly and declared that he was ready for a new task – also abroad. According to the report, Juve’s sporting director Damien Comolli is said to be a supporter of Rose.
Edin Terzić, most recently a coach at Borussia Dortmund and currently working as a TV expert, is also associated with the traditional club. It is not yet known whether he has any concrete interest in getting involved with the “Old Lady”.
Igor Tudor took over the team in March of this year. As the successor to Thiago Motta, he led Juve to fourth place in the table last season. Despite a titleless season, they managed to qualify for the Champions League. However, there was already speculation about his future with the Italian record champions during the summer break.
