The Association of Foreign Correspondents of the Argentine Republic (ACERA) denounced yesterday that the Government places “impediments to foreign journalistic coverage in the legislative elections.” In the statement released, the entity, with more than 40 years of experience in the country and which represents more than 90 journalists from international media, “expresses its strong concern and protest at the obstacles imposed by the ruling party for the coverage of the elections. And it lists: “In the last few hours, our associates – as well as other unaffiliated correspondents – have faced serious impediments to carry out their work, among which are: 1. Accreditations denied, revoked or canceled without valid justification. 2. Impossibility of entering key locations for coverage, such as the ruling party bunker.”

ACERA explains: “A significant number of our colleagues have had access to the La Libertad Avanza bunker unjustifiably blocked, which will prevent them from fulfilling their professional duty to report with transparency and timeliness. This constitutes a clear violation of the right to inform and freedom of expression, and limits the ability of the international press to adequately reflect the Argentine electoral process, especially in the case of television media and photojournalists. It turns out unacceptable that the argument of ‘lack of space’ be resorted to once again, when previous experiences have shown that there is capacity to accommodate followers, sympathizers and relatives of the candidates.”

Given this situation, the entity requested “the immediate reconsideration of these restrictions and the authorization of all the necessary accreditations for the free performance of the foreign press.” And he also appealed “to the electoral authorities, guarantors of the transparency of the process, to intervene in order to ensure unrestricted access to information and full freedom to carry out journalistic work.”

The answer never came. Milei repeats, every time she can, that she doesn’t hate journalists enough.
