Hans Knudde, Alderman for the Environment and Energy: “The works are necessary to meet the conditions of the energy performance certificate for non-residential buildings (EPC NR). For this purpose, the outdated technical installations of the swimming pool must be renewed.”

For example, the air units and heating boilers will be replaced, two heat pumps and a solar boiler system will be installed and the lighting in the swimming hall will be switched to energy-efficient LEDs. In addition, solar panels will be installed and new insulation will be installed to limit heat loss.

Efficient and affordable

Alderman for Sports and Finance, Peter Breemersch: “With this renovation we are taking a big step towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient swimming pool. Thanks to this investment, we can also operate it in an efficient and affordable way in the future.”

The total investment cost is approximately 1.29 million euros (excl. VAT). The municipality receives a Flemish subsidy of 367,000 euros for this through the ‘CO₂ saving measures’ program of Sport Vlaanderen.

Timing

The municipal council approved the specifications for the works on October 23. The municipality will now appoint a contractor to carry out the work. There is currently no information on the exact start date of the works. The municipality expects that the renovation will probably take place between May and September 2026.
