First playoff game, first goal, first win: Thomas Müller and the Vancouver Whitecaps have many reasons to be in a good mood in the game against FC Dallas.

Thomas Müller scored in his first MLS playoff game and led his Vancouver Whitecaps to a confident 3-0 win over FC Dallas. The 35-year-old made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 60th minute, making it his ninth goal in all competitions since moving to Canada two months ago.

“We controlled the game from the start. That was the plan. Finding the balance between attacking and being ready for counterattacks. We controlled it well and distributed the ball well,” said Müller afterwards on Apple TV.

“But that was just one win, we still need a second one.” Asked what makes the Whitecaps special, he replied: “If I wasn’t a player, but an expert, I would say this team has a good cohesion. But as a player, I don’t reveal any secrets. We are ready for more. And I want to have fun with the boys.”

To advance in the best-of-three mode of the first playoff round, Vancouver needs another win. The teams will meet in Dallas on Saturday evening (local time).
