The first race of the season is behind the giant slalom drivers. The victory went to Marco Odermatt, third place went to a Norwegian.
He continues exactly where he left off: Marco Odermatt is off to a successful start to the Olympic season. The Swiss secured victory in the giant slalom in Sölden (1:56.03) ahead of the Austrian Marco Schwarz (+0.24). Third came 25-year-old Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath (+0.27), who could hardly believe his luck and jumped and screamed for joy with his colleagues.
Schwarz said about his second place on ZDF: “Mega race, super happy. I’m very happy that it worked out in the first race.”
From a German perspective, Fabian Gratz put in an impressive second run and was able to put the following athletes at a distance. He finished in 17th place (+1.58). In the finish area, the DSV ace beamed over time and certainly also from the successful training in the summer. Boris Büchel said Grazt had an “incredible” time.
Gratz said on ZDF: “It was a very good trip. It was really fun. I’m very happy with the trip.” Even though he lost a stick. Since the start was postponed by half an hour due to the heavy snow, the situation was not easy for the ski racers. Gratz explained: “I had already put it on three times before, and the fourth time I put the helmet on it worked.”
Alexander Schmid started after his teammate, but he finished behind Gratz and finished 27th (+2.83). Nevertheless, he was happy about his successful comeback in Sölden. Anton Grammel was also able to confirm his form from the first run, even if it didn’t work quite as well in the second round, he ended up 11th (+1.32) and said afterwards on ZDF: “I was pretty tense before the race and I’m happy with how it turned out.”
