VVD party leader Dilan Yesilgöz could not go to her home in Amsterdam on Saturday evening after the Debate of the South due to a “suspicious situation” in her neighborhood. She said in the television program Buitenhof that there was an unsafe situation and that she was taken to a safe location. She was finally able to go home on the night from Saturday to Sunday.
It concerns people who moved suspiciously near the house of the VVD party leader. According to Yesilgöz, people were stopped. It is not known whether they were actually arrested. According to Yesilgöz, the police checks the entire neighborhood in these types of situations.
The Debate of the South was broadcast from MindLabs in Tilburg on Saturday evening. The debate is a collaboration between Omroep Brabant, L1 and Omroep Zeeland.
Organized crime
Yesilgöz could not say for sure where the threat came from, but she said that for her it usually comes from organized crime. She has been threatened by organized crime since she was Minister of Justice and Security in the previous cabinet. That is why it is continuously protected.
According to Yesilgöz, it is annoying that this happens in the middle of the election campaign, “but everyone benefits from this.” She said it made her especially angry. “That feeling had to go away for a while to relax.”
Yesilgöz said she had a “short night” before joining Buitenhof.
