Cologne’s 0-1 defeat in Dortmund was overshadowed by Timo Hüber’s serious injury. Coach Lukas Kwasniok expects he will be out for months.
After a duel with BVB striker Serhou Guirassy in the final phase, the 29-year-old was left lying in pain – he had apparently twisted his knee. Some Cologne professionals immediately threw their hands over their heads.
Hübers was treated for minutes and finally taken off the field on a stretcher. The central defender kept grabbing his head, his face contorted in pain. Both fan camps applauded.
Kessler: “We assume that we will miss him for a long time”
“We hope it’s not as bad as it looked“, wrote the FC at “We don’t have a diagnosis yet, but we suspect a serious knee injury and assume he will be out for a long time.”said sports director Thomas Kessler.
“I saw him briefly, he was crying, in pain. He’s just miserable.”said coach Lukas Kwasniok. “It looks like a really serious knee injury. It won’t be a six-week injury, but he’ll be out for months.”
Since Kwasniok had already exhausted the substitution contingent, FC had to play the final minutes outnumbered. Shortly before the end of the game, Maximilian Beier (90+6) scored the 1-0 winning goal for the hosts.
