There were dramatic scenes in the final phase of the game at Borussia Dortmund. In the spotlight: A defender from 1. FC Köln.

Defense chief Timo Hübers suffered a suspected serious knee injury in 1. FC Köln’s away game at Borussia Dortmund. After a duel with BVB striker Serhou Guirassy in the final phase, the 29-year-old was left lying in pain – he had apparently twisted his knee. What followed were dramatic scenes.

The 82nd minute at Signal Iduna Park: Hübers clears a duel against Guirassy on Cologne’s left defense – and unfortunately twists his knee and remains lying. Some Cologne professionals immediately throw their hands over their heads. Are visibly shocked by their teammate’s misfortune.

The Cologne team doctors immediately rush to the injured defender; he has to be treated for minutes. With his face contorted in pain, Hübers repeatedly clutches his head. Then it becomes clear what was already feared: Hübers has to leave the field immediately, he is brought off the pitch on a stretcher to the applause of the fans of both teams, with tears on his face and pulling his jersey over his eyes.

“We hope it’s not as bad as it looked,” the FC immediately wrote to X.

Dramatic: Since Cologne coach Lukas Kwasniok had already exhausted the substitution quota, FC had to play the final minutes outnumbered. Shortly before the end of the game, Maximilian Beier (90+6) scored the 1-0 winning goal for the hosts. Given Timo Hübers’ serious injury, the result ultimately took a back seat, at least for Cologne.
