Actress Alina Tomnikov’s eyes were opened during the filming of an international series in Ireland. He is now hoping for a change in his everyday life.
Actress Alina Tomnikov’s quick visit to Finland in September was extremely emotional. Tears rolled down my cheeks and even onto the hall floor from both happiness and longing.
Alina, 37, has spent the last few months abroad filming Amazon’s international large-scale production. He is playing a double role in the historical based Bloodaxe– drama series.
The whole family moved to Ireland for the filming. The Helsinki home has been rented and now it has been put up for sale. For now, Alina does not know if she will return to her home again when the filming is over later in the fall.
Despite the uncertainty, the actor is really happy. Alina recognizes two special reasons for her happiness.
– The fact that I currently have a job and a wonderful family, he tells Iltalehte.
– And the fact that combining these things works. I have realized and decided that I don’t have to choose between being an artist or being a parent.
A couple of years ago, Alina had her first child with her husband Lauri Laukkanen.
Alina Tomnikov is relieved, as several of her fears and thoughts regarding motherhood have turned out to be pointless over-analyses. Pete Anikari
Before becoming a mother, it was the combination of career and motherhood that scared me. Alina recalls common talks about the “closing of the baby bubble” and when would be the right time to have a child. Now he has realized that there is no right moment.
– I am now an artist with a child. And I wouldn’t change a day. Suddenly I’m not the center of my life, I make decisions before the needs of others. It’s really great.
Alina describes understanding all of this and finding a balance to combine family and career as a big change. He often finds artistry to be a rather selfish thing, while the everyday life of a child is the opposite.
– The most selfless thing I’ve ever experienced.
A lasting relationship
When it comes to combining photo trips and family life, it helps enormously that Alina’s spouse can travel with her. Alina’s mother has also been in Ireland for a month to help.
– It’s a great gift. The feeling of family and home is formed by the people you are with, no matter where you are.
Alina feels that the relationship between her and her husband has changed very little after the birth of the child. The relationship is based a lot on friendship, and not only on romantic intimacy. This is exactly why the relationship lasts.
– I wouldn’t have wanted a child if it hadn’t been with my husband. I never experienced baby fever, but the wish was related to the other person, with whom I want to share this.
Alina Tomnikov is happy about her personal life situation. At the same time, however, he observes with horror, sadness and rage the situation in the cultural sector and the wars raging in the world. Pete Anikari
Although the family’s Helsinki home is for sale, they are not leaving Finland behind. Alina cannot and does not want to give up Finland. Even in Ireland, she has sometimes been plagued by strong homesickness, even though Alina feels that she has settled in there as well.
However, the months in a small Irish village have opened my eyes. Alina has realized that she doesn’t miss the noise of the center of Helsinki, but peace, within walking distance of a quiet bedroom, a yard and a regular cafe.
Alina would like to walk with the toddler and explore the world together without constantly squeezing his hand and giving prohibitions.
– We are looking for something in the SME region that combines a quieter environment with a village center within walking distance.
Russian dream dented
A new home in Finland is being searched at the time of the interview. Over the years, Alina Tomnikova has been seen in several international productions and BloodaxeThere is still time in the filming of the series. Alina says that international productions are by no means her only path.
– Maybe I’m a bit challenging about it. My passion and dreams are exactly 50/50 here and abroad.
Alina Tomnikov says that she enjoys different languages and that she can improve a language she knows under the guise of a certain role. Among other things, this leads to international productions. Pete Anikari
He describes his career as a kind of patchwork, because the combination is not simple. Foreign productions often require commitment, but job offers may come even with short notice. Then it may be that the actor is already committed to a domestic production.
– My dream would be to be able to do both and I believe that it will be possible. If I look back on my life, I would have made different choices if I only had an international career in mind.
Earlier, Alina also made a career in her father’s home country, Russia. Now career dreams to the east are completely frozen.
– I’m not cold to my own roots, but the relationship with working in Russia is broken at the moment.
And could Alina one day still see herself pursuing a career in Russia as well?
– Politics should change really strongly, Alina states.
An exceptional role
This fall, Alina Tomnikov will also be seen on domestic screens Josefina Rautiainen writing and directing The art of yelling in the movie.
In the psychological and intimate drama, Alina will be seen in the role of Heloisa. Heloisa goes to therapy for, among other things, her violent obsessions.
Newly in love, Heloisa tells her therapist how she would like, for example, to cover her date’s face with lighter fluid and press his face into the burning embers. It soon turns out that the new lover is the son of Psychotherapist Anu (Jonna Järnefelt) Antti (Samuel Kujala).
Alina Tomnikov is seething because of the cuts in the cultural sector: “We are artists and we want to do it from the soul. We can’t do this from the soul if there are no resources” Pete Anikari
Alina Tomnikov and Josefiina Rautiainen met when Alina was still at Theater Academy. Before The art of yelling -film script, they discussed a lot about, among other things, the special nature of the therapy relationship.
– Having been in therapy a lot myself, I was already preparing for the filming when we talked about how wonderful and funny the therapy relationship is. The focus is completely on someone else, and it’s not friendship, but what if you get attached or can get attached, Alina enumerates.
Alina also prepared for her role by talking to people who have experienced violence, as she herself has no personal experience of violence.
– I tried to understand how violence feels in the body and what kind of traces it leaves. I also thought a lot about the logic that my character has had a violent childhood, but as an adult it manifests as violent obsessions when falling in love. I wanted to understand how the fact that I have been hurt leads to the fact that I want to hurt someone else in my imagination.

The director already saw Alina in the main role of the work while preparing the script. Among other things, this did The art of yelling -film is very personal to Alina. However, there are many differences between the character and the actor himself.
– It felt personally important and a great trust that someone is already writing with you in mind. It was wonderful, Alina sums up.
