Surprise team Elversberg’s run ends at the Bielefelder Alm for the time being. Paderborn turns the game in Dresden and jumps to second place.

Newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld stopped SV Elversberg’s run and defeated them 2-0. Bielefeld inflicted the league’s surprise team their first defeat after seven unbeaten games in a row with 19 points. This means that Elversberg finally has to hand over the championship lead to Schalke 04. The Royal Blues beat Darmstadt 98 1-0 on Friday.

Joel Grodowski (17th) and Florian Le Joncour scored with an own goal (28th) on the Alm for the East Westphalians, who ended their negative series with four bankruptcies. Elversberg started dominantly and dominated the initial phase with a lot of possession. But Bielefeld scored the first effective goal. After winning the ball in front of their own penalty area, Monju Momuluh quickly went forward. Grodowski used his pass to take the surprising lead.

The visitors’ defense was particularly helpful in making it 2-0: after a cross from Benjamin Boakye, Le Joncour maneuvered the ball into his own goal. Elversberg continued to have the ball more often, but did not develop a goal threat.

SVE striker Younes Ebnoutalib, who has scored nine times so far, was out for a long time and only scored his first goal in the 56th minute, but only hit the side netting. A little later, the 22-year-old hit the outside post with a header (61′).

SC Paderborn continued their winning streak and climbed to second place in the 2nd Bundesliga after their historic sixth three-pointer in a row. The East Westphalia team won on the tenth matchday after falling behind 2:1 (1:1) at newly promoted Dynamo Dresden. The SCP had never achieved six wins in a row before.

Filip Bilbija with a hand penalty (45th + 2) and Mika Baur (65th) scored for Paderborn. Christoph Daferner was successful for Dresden with a penalty kick (26th).

Little came from Paderborn in the first half, the hosts’ strong defense had the action under control. Dresden’s lead was not undeserved because the Saxons posed more danger than the guests. The equalizer in stoppage time was flattering for the SCP.

Not much happened in the second half. Both teams neutralized each other and there were almost no highlights. It wasn’t until the 65th minute that Paderborn substitute Luis Engelns caused danger with a header. Shortly afterwards, Baur, who was on loan at Dynamo last season, scored from distance.
