The big TV interview with Suzan & Freek about the hellish spring they have had – they heard that he is terminally ill – sparked a discussion at Today Inside. “It’s a campaign for effect.”

Suzan & Freek spoke candidly in Eva Jinek’s talk show about the intense time they had together. The emotions were very much on the surface and the hostess herself could not hold back her tears. Johan Derksen, traditionally Eva’s biggest hater, throws up on it. “I had great difficulty with that singing duo.”

Pursuit of effect

It’s all about the viewing figures, Johan shouts at the table Today Inside. “I think it’s really conscious tearjerker (tearjerker, ed.). I know: that Eva is always looking for effect.”

Hélène Hendriks exclaims: “Nooooo, nonsense!”

Johan: “When that news became known, the whole of the Netherlands was a bit shocked down. We all sympathized with those people. Those songs don’t appeal to me, but those people aren’t hurting anyone. They are lovely people. How can you get it like this? A young boy, metastatic cancer, an pregnant woman: dramatic.”

Score cheaply

It has all been discussed widely enough, says Johan. “But Jinek needed a crying moment, a tearjerker, and then she lets it come and when you start talking to those people, she sits completely forward, then those people get a lump in their throat and then it becomes emo TV again. I think it’s a bit of a cheap score.”

Hélène: “I didn’t think so at all. I even thought it was beautiful and I think Eva does that very well, because she takes all the time and rest.”

Uncomfortable

René van der Gijp agrees with Johan. “It always makes me a little uncomfortable.”

Johan: “Yes, and I get the feeling that it is unbelievable that Jinek insists on having such an item because she scores with it.”

Hélène: “No, she really isn’t like that.”

Johan: “If it were sincere, it would be very noble, but it’s just about the viewing figures.”
