A representative survey asks about the title chances for national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team. The answer is clear – the one about Manuel Neuer, less so.
Confidence in the German national soccer team is low a year before the World Cup. According to a recent survey, many citizens do not trust the team to achieve a great triumph.
As can be seen from a representative survey by the opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of the German Press Agency, 60 percent of those surveyed do not believe that the DFB team will be world champions in 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Only 13 percent expect to win the title. Another 27 percent did not want to commit or did not provide any information. A total of 2,031 people aged 18 and over were surveyed between October 17th and 20th.
In terms of sport, national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team is on track: after a weak start in the World Cup qualification, the direct ticket for the tournament is within reach two games before the end of the group. Nevertheless, many experts currently see nations such as world champions Argentina, European champions Spain and England as stronger than the selection of the German Football Association.
There is also disagreement on a personnel issue: the return of Manuel Neuer. A majority is against the keeper making a comeback at the World Cup. 40 percent think that the FC Bayern Munich goalkeeper should not return. 27 percent are in favor of returning. 33 percent did not comment on this.
