Lincoln Red Imps FC from Gibraltar embarrassed the Polish football champions Lech Poznan to the bone.

The blatant outsider won the Conference League 2-1 (1-1), it was the first victory for a team from Gibraltar in the group or league phase of a European Cup competition.

The Red Imps had lost 5-0 against Zrinjski Mostar from Bosnia-Herzegovina on the first matchday, but now their big moment had come: Christian Rutjens scored in the 88th minute at the Europa Point Stadium for an acclaimed victory.

Behind the Lincoln Red Imps lies a true European odyssey: In qualifying for the Champions League, after victories against Vikingur Göta from the Faroe Islands, the final stop was against Red Star Belgrade, and things continued in the Europa League qualifying with a win against FC Noah Yerevan from Armenia and elimination against Sporting Braga. Nevertheless, the reward was taking part in the league phase of the “smallest” competition, where there was now a big victory to celebrate.
