Historic goal at FC Bayern: In the duel against Club Bruges on Wednesday evening, Lennart Karl became the youngest Champions League goalscorer in Munich’s history and the youngest German goalscorer in the history of the premier class. In his starting eleven debut in the European elite competition, Karl needed less than five minutes to take the 1-0 lead after a remarkable individual action.
At the age of 17 years and eight months, the young professional overtakes Jamal Musiala, who became Bayern’s youngest CL goalscorer to date in 2021 at the age of 17 years, 11 months, 28 days. Looking at all competitions, only three Bayern players were younger than Karl now, Toni Kroos in the 2007 UEFA Cup, Musiala in the 2020 Bundesliga and, above all, Mathys Tel in the 2022 DFB Cup (Bayern’s youngest goalscorers to date).
In the premier class history there were two players, Wlodzimierz Lubanski (Górnik Zabrze, 1963) and Nii Lamptey (RSC Anderlecht, 1991), who were even under 17 years old. There were a dozen other players younger than Karl. Since the introduction of the Champions League in 1992/93, Barcelona’s Ansu Fati was the youngest in 2019 at the age of 17 years, one month and nine days (statistics: youngest goalscorers in the premier class).
