Stepanova was devastated on Tuesday, when the International Ski Federation Fis decided that skiers from Russia and Belarus cannot return to international competitions. The decision meant that there is no issue for next winter’s Olympics either.

Stepanova has been supported by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin numerous times in public. He has met Putin and attended the president’s events.
Stepanova does not pack, even though due to her public statements, she would hardly get the status of a neutral athlete.
– Vladimir Putin is my president. My country is always right. If that’s the reason why a few dubious characters won’t let me compete in international competitions, I’m willing to pay the price.
Stepanova was about to win the women’s relay Olympic gold in Beijing 2022. The Russians and Belarusians were banned from the Fis Games in March 2022.
