Anyone who likes star showers is in luck: the annual Orionid meteor shower can be seen, allowing you to spot shooting stars above Zoetermeer. The peak of this star shower is Wednesday, October 22, in the morning around 6:00 am.

At that moment, about 26 shooting stars are visible per hour, says meteorologist Johnny Willemsen Weatheronline. “The meteors often have a luminous trail, which makes them visible for a little longer. The chance of seeing them is therefore greater.”

Shooting stars in Zoetermeer

To spot the stars, you have to stand in a dark place such as the Bentwoud. If you are in the center of Zoetermeer, ambient light makes it more difficult to see the meteors. Johnny: “On average, in bright places you only see a third to a quarter of the meteors that you can spot in a dark place.”

Coming days

Are you still lying down at 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning and don’t want to get up for the Orionids? Fortunately, the meteor shower remains visible for even longer. You can see the flying stars two days before and after the peak. Therefore, look up in the evening, at night or early in the morning.
