Harry Kane leads the top scorers list in the Bundesliga. For Lothar Matthäus, he is currently the best in his field.

Harry Kane doesn’t just score regularly – the 36-year-old also impresses in many other areas. For Lothar Matthäus, the Bayern striker is currently the best in his field.

In his Sky column, the German record international player wrote: “I don’t see a better striker in the world at the moment. Not just because of his goals, but because of his versatility and the positions in which he is.”

Matthäus emphasized that, in addition to his goal threat, the Englishman also shows skills as a passer, in dribbling and in duels. Kane is a goalscorer, playmaker, box-to-box player and tackler at the same time.

According to Matthäus, it is precisely this versatility that sets him apart from other top strikers: he has never seen Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé tackle their own penalty area – in contrast to Kane, who did that in the 88th minute against Dortmund.

Matthäus also sees advantages in terms of play with the Bayern star. He didn’t see any long passes or chip balls over 50 meters from Haaland or Mbappé like Kane could play. According to Matthäus, this is also due to his current coach.

“Under Thomas Tuchel, he may not have been given the freedom at Bayern that he is now getting with Vincent Kompany or that he is taking.” Under the Belgian, Kane could “act as a free spirit”.

The 64-year-old even goes so far as to say that England’s national team captain has “reinvented the center forward game, like Manuel Neuer did with goalkeepers about a decade and a half ago.”

Kane is also “a complete professional and has the right mentality,” enthused the former Bayern professional: “He doesn’t make headlines off the pitch, but he is grounded and lives and loves football.” Matthäus would therefore extend the contract with Kane “as quickly as possible” if he were Bayern.
