Alemannia Aachen has fired coach Benedetto Muzzicato after three defeats in a row and falling into a relegation zone.

The third division team announced this on Monday morning. On Saturday, the Aachen team lost their home game against their table neighbors FC Ingolstadt 0-1.

Assistant coach Ilyas Trenz takes over on an interim basis

“After a detailed analysis, we see the need to take this step. After three defeats in a row and a total of seven defeats, we lack the conviction that the turnaround will be successful in this constellation,” said Rachid Azzouzi, Managing Director of Sport at Alemannia.

In addition to Muzzicato, assistant coach Noah Hach and technical director Erdal Celik were also relieved of their duties. Assistant coach Ilyas Trenz will take over on an interim basis together with U-19 coach Carsten Wissing and prepare the team for the away game at SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Friday evening.

Three wins and a draw under Muzzicato were not enough

The 47-year-old Muzzicato came from Alemannia after Heiner Backhaus moved to the club football-Second division club Eintracht Braunschweig was only hired as their new head coach in the summer. He had previously taken over the SC Freiburg reserves after their relegation to the regional league. He had already left this at the end of 2024 because he wanted to train a first team.

This wish was fulfilled in Aachen, but Muzzicato’s third division journey has now come to an abrupt end after just eleven games of the season. With only three wins and one draw, those responsible at Alemannia did not see their expectations fulfilled, although Muzzicato’s “idea and approach” were still considered good. Results and success just didn’t add up.

The “right trainer for Alemannia” should now be found with a clearly defined requirements profile, on the basis of which discussions will be held with potential candidates. Trenz and Wissing are currently preparing for the guest appearance at eleventh-placed SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
