Touré was active for Esprit Foot Yeumbeul and was allegedly scammed and kidnapped by a group of blackmailers, who led Touré to believe that a trial period at a professional football club was waiting for him. The young goalkeeper was then kidnapped and used as an extortion tool for a large ransom.
The Ghanaian authorities are now conducting further investigations into the exact cause of death and several representatives from the Senegalese embassy are also assisting in the investigation. “The ministry would like to express its deepest support to the family and assures that it will do everything it can to follow up the case thoroughly,” the Senegalese ministry said in an official statement.
