“Game of Thrones”: Emilia Clarke terribly sad about criticism of the last season
Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the multi-award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones, said in a new interview that despite all the thoughts lost on the series’ ending, it could never have made everyone happy.
The British actress told the “Daily Telegraph” specifically: “Everyone will have their own opinion and of course everyone has the right to do so. (…) It is art and it has to be taken apart and individually accepted in every possible way. And if you are sad that the show is over and you are sad because you enjoyed watching it, then that is already sad (the way the series is treated, editor’s note).”

Clarke added: “It sucks that this wasn’t the perfect ending people were hoping for, but I truly believe we could never have made everyone happy.”
How logical was Daenerys Targaryen’s personal development?
Although she was too busy focusing on her own role, Clarke said she felt bad for her colleagues, namely showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. In her opinion, it was mainly them who received the negative reactions online. Many fans made fun of bad scripts, fatal timing, and the numerous mistakes in the last episodes (just think of the coffee mug…).
However, Clarke also had to take criticism herself and the writers for developing her character into a violent avenger. For the 32-year-old, however, there is nothing “ugly” about Daenerys: “The character (Daenerys) taught me what it felt like to be in a room and to be heard. She wielded such power, calm and composure. She had fierce intensity and made some incredibly difficult decisions.”
Most recently, Clarke defended the ending of the series, describing her character’s fate as “logical”: “What else could have happened to her? I’ve been trying to think about what the ending is going to be. It’s not like she’s going to suddenly take off, ‘Okay, I’m going to put a kettle on and put some biscuits in the oven and we’ll just sit down and have a nice time (…). That would never happen. She’s one Targaryen.”

When actor Kit Harrington learned of the fate of his character Jon Snow’s romance with Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke), he burst into tears in front of the entire cast. Despite bad reviews of the eighth and final season of “Game Of Thrones,” the series finale was tough. Now Harington offered a possible explanation as to why his love story came to such a dramatic end.
In an interview with the “Hollywood Reporter” The Briton explained that Jon Snow killed his lover (who is also his aunt) to protect the Stark family: “Jon keeps in mind: Daenerys or Sansa and Arya. So his decision has been made. He chooses his blood instead of, well, his other blood. But he chooses the people he grew up with, people with whom his roots lie, the North. He is these things faithful at the end of the day. With that knowledge, he picks up the knife.”
Harington explained that another scene also made him cry. He was particularly touched that Snow was able to rejoin the Night’s Watch after killing Daenerys: “Seeing him set off for what lies beyond the Wall, something true, something honest, something pure, with the people he always said he belonged to, it really made me cry. To me, it felt like he was finally free.”
Kit Harrington was mad at Arya Stark (Maisie Williams)
“Instead of being chained and sent back to the Wall, he was finally freed. It was a really sweet ending. He did something terrible, he felt the pain, but in the end he was released from everything.”
Harington recently admitted that he still wanted a slightly different fate for his role. He would have liked to kill the Night King himself and was therefore a little angry at Arya Stark, who was allowed to carry out the heroic deed.
