Vancouver Whitecaps
Nagtiv premiere for Thomas Müller – despite the goal
October 19, 2025 – 8:19 a.mReading time: 2 minutes

Thomas Müller scored a goal for the Whitecaps on Saturday. However, he was unable to avoid his first defeat with the club.
The last matchday of the regular MLS season offered the Vancouver Whitecaps the chance to make club history. But despite another goal from Thomas Müller, in the end it wasn’t enough for first place in the Western Conference.
In the 1:2 (1:1) against FC Dallas, the Whitecaps suffered a bitter home defeat – and slipped to second place. For Thomas Müller it was the first bankruptcy with his new club. A draw would have been enough to qualify for the play-offs in the West for the first time in the club’s history. Tied on points with San Diego FC, Vancouver missed this goal due to a poorer goal difference.
The task became more difficult early in the game: defender Mathias Laborda was shown a red card after just eleven minutes. Dallas quickly took advantage of the advantage – Osaze Urhoghide took the lead in the 17th minute.
Thomas Müller, who has been in top form since moving to North America, was once again accurate. The former international scored a penalty in the 26th minute to equalize – it was his seventh goal in his seventh appearance. But that wasn’t enough either: Shortly after the break, Sarver Kaick (47th) scored the decisive 2-1 for Dallas.
This means that we will meet FC Dallas again in the first play-off round. The final round begins on October 24th. The ex-Bayern star Müller commented on the game on Instagram afterwards: “It was a tough fight with ten men and an unfortunate result.” The 36-year-old also added: “We are now looking forward to the play-offs.”
