The Roma coach analyzed the home defeat against Inter: “Hermoso’s episode was decisive, but he came out on my indication”
Roma lose their chance to escape at the top and Gasp continues to fail to win against Inter. But tonight’s match is decidedly different compared to the 4-0 achieved by Atalanta a year ago. And the coach recognizes it at the end of the match. “I’m disappointed with the result, but not with the performance. I liked Roma in both the first and second half. In the second half we created more and came out well against Inter who are very strong.” Then he goes into detail about the episode that changed the match: “Bonny’s goal? Hermoso followed my instructions to go high, the problem was the offside line – admits Gasp -. We shouldn’t have risked a situation like that. In the first minutes we didn’t take measures at Inter, we forgot some movements. Maybe in the national team they ask you for other things and you forget what you have to do here. That episode determined the match, but we must look further.” He then closed by saying: “We deserved the draw. You come out of this defeat with greater conviction because if you play like this with a team like Inter, it means you can do well.”
the choices and the false new
—
Gasperini made many surprise choices in a challenge that was worth first place. The coach tried to explain it like this: “Wesley on the left played an excellent game and so did Celik on the right. We had a push that we had less in other games. Ndicka on the right? Both he and Hermoso are left-footed, I had to choose one. But the goal conceded is certainly not the fault of the role changes.” Gasperini then spoke about the choice of the false new player: “Dybala false nine? In terms of condition he gave me more certainties, he trained well in this break like Pellegrini and Soulé. The goal conceded upset the possibility of playing another type of game. They are three setters and could have put Inter in difficulty, they did well. In the first half the match was more balanced. I put Bailey on after the doctors gave him the OK and I thrown in.”
GASP And chivu
—
Finally a comment on Chivu. “I was lucky enough to know him at Inter even though he couldn’t play at that time. I’ve always appreciated the player and the person and I really like him as a coach. It wasn’t easy for him to take over from Inzaghi, he’s doing it with clear ideas. Lots of merit”, concluded Gasperini.
