PSV defeated Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 with good football. Guus Til was the big man on Saturday evening. He scored both goals in a match that was largely dominated by the farewell of Luuk de Jong. Yet the people of Eindhoven made it unnecessarily difficult for themselves.

Before the match, an extensive farewell was said to Luuk de Jong. The striker thanked the fans and received a special captain’s armband and a tile on the Walk of Fame. Even the press room has been named after him since this weekend.

On to the match. Go Ahead Eagles seemed to be off to a strong start, if it weren’t for winger Jearl Margaritha tripping over his own feet in the PSV penalty area. After this, the home team took control and became dangerous through Ivan Perisic’s header. The goalkeeper on Deventer’s side, Jari de Busser, let the ball slip out of his hands, but the ball hit the post.

Beautiful attack
PSV pressed and was rewarded in the 20th minute. A beautiful attack came from Sergiño Dest on the right flank. He pulled the ball hard and occasional striker Guus Til was quick to score the 1-0.

The formation of coach Peter Bosz played dominant football in the first half. Go Ahead Eagles had no choice but to shoot the ball forward hard, but before you knew it the ball was back in Eindhoven’s possession. PSV had possession of the ball 66 percent of the time in the first half.

After the break, PSV continued with what it ended the first half with: playing nice football. Til was especially comfortable with it. After a nice move by Ismael Saibari, he scored his second of the evening in the 50th minute.

Unnecessary goal conceded
The three points seemed to be in the bag, but nothing turned out to be further from the truth. After an incredible hospital ball from Yarek Gasiorowski, Milan Smit was able to coolly score the 2-1 on behalf of the visitors.

PSV was not fooled and immediately went on the hunt for the 3-1. One of the players with a big chance was Ricardo Pepi. He returned from injury and was allowed to play thirty minutes. PSV failed to score and sometimes Go Ahead Eagles seemed to become dangerous thanks to mistakes in the enemy defense. Fortunately for the vast majority of spectators, the score remained 2-1.

In the lead
Thanks to the victory, PSV is, temporarily or otherwise, in first place. PSV shares the leading position with Feyenoord, which will visit bottom line Heracles on Sunday.

An important week follows for PSV. On Tuesday, Napoli will visit in the Champions League and on Sunday the Eindhoven team will visit … Feyenoord.
