“It would be nice if I could answer a few questions for you,” Heitinga responded with a laugh during the press conference this morning. “He expressed it in that interview, but I already felt that support internally. You have confidence in each other. Otherwise we would not have entered into the collaboration. It is up to me to ensure that we can be proud of our club. That starts with results on the field and I would have liked to have gone further, yes.”
Dismissal
Ajax awaits a tough program with AZ as their opponent tomorrow evening and then Chelsea-away and Twente-away. Heitinga did not want to comment on the scenario of what would happen if Ajax had a bad outcome. Because of his statements, Kroes would also have to resign if Heitinga were to be dismissed. Heitinga: “I understand that you ask that question, but that is not up to me. A challenging period is coming and I have confidence in the positive outcome.”
During the international break, Ajax added Fred Grim to Ajax’s technical staff as an assistant coach. Heitinga says that his arrival will allow him to focus more on the team process and the way of playing. The former Ajax goalkeeper will be on the bench for the first time against AZ tomorrow evening. Frank Peereboom moves to the stands and will focus on analyses. The staff is therefore not complete. Ajax is still looking for an exercise physiologist.
