The Eisbären Berlin missed out on a place in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League (CHL).

The Polar Bears Berlin missed out on making it to the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League (CHL). The German ice hockey champions lost 1:4 (0:1, 1:3, 0:0) at EC Red Bull Salzburg. Lean Bergmann scored the only goal for the capital city team, who were still weakened by numerous failures and who only ended up in 22nd place in the final table after the fifth defeat in the sixth main round game.

In front of 3,400 spectators in the Salzburg Ice Arena, the home team took advantage of their first advantage: Connor Corcoran scored for the Austrians in the 4th minute. The guests failed to capitalize on their few chances in the opening third and conceded their second goal shortly after the first break. Nash Nienhuis extended Salzburg’s lead (22nd).

Three goals conceded in the second third

Only 28 seconds later, Bergmann scored the next goal, but the hosts now took advantage of the weaknesses of the Berlin backline, which was missing four regular defenders. Thanks to goals from Mario Huber (31st) and Peter Schneider (32nd), the Austrians moved ahead to 4-1.

The polar bears didn’t give up in the final section. However, despite some good opportunities, they failed to make the game exciting again.
