Milano, 14 Oct. (askanews) – Hunger as a weapon of war. Not just in Gaza, it happens more and more often in recent years according to the 2025 “Global Hunger Index”, an international report presented in Italy by the Cesvi Foundation.

Around the world, 295 million people are affected by what is called “acute hunger”of these 140 million are in the midst of a food crisis due to conflict. Not only a consequence of violence but, according to the report, “deliberately inflicted through sieges, blockades of aid and destruction of agricultural infrastructure”.

Gaza is the most recent and dramatic case, with the population facing a very serious famine which has caused the death of 461 people after two years of Israeli attacks.

In the rest of the world, the report shows that hunger has reached alarming levels in 7 countries: Haiti, Madagascar, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi and Yemen, and is classified as severe in 35 others.
