John van den Heuvel: 35 years of crime journalism; from liquidations to legalization

Today marks almost 35 years since I started working at De Telegraaf/Courant Nieuws van de Dag as a young and enthusiastic police reporter. A spectacular gold heist at Schiphol, a sensational escape of six prisoners from the detention center on Havenstraat in Amsterdam and a corruption scandal at the investigation department of the Raampoort bureau in the capital were the first ‘achievements’ as a raging reporter for the city editorial office.
