The 14-year-old daughter of the former HSV professional is fighting cancer. Now she had to be taken to the emergency room in the middle of the night. Her mother could at least give the all-clear.
The 14-year-old daughter of ex-Bundesliga professional Dennis Diekmeier is in hospital again. As mother Dana announced via Instagram, an ambulance had to be called on the night from Saturday to Sunday. “Delani felt very poorly that night, so the ambulance had to come at 3 a.m. and we were taken to the emergency room,” she wrote in her story. Her daughter was transferred directly to the intensive care unit and received immediate medical care there.
According to Dana, Delani is now on the mend: “Fortunately, she is now on the mend and we hope to be able to go home soon.”
The teenager was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on his kidney at the beginning of the year. Although the tumor was removed, by this time it had already metastasized to the lungs. Several operations and chemotherapy have not yet brought the hoped-for success.
At the end of August, Dana Diekmeier spoke about a difficult moment in an interview with RTL. A doctor told her in the hallway that she should be prepared for the fact that her daughter would not survive the year. “Make it nice for her,” he advised her.
Despite this dramatic prognosis, the family continues to fight. Father Dennis recently said on Sport1: “Of course we stick together brutally. We have to make a lot of decisions – about therapies, about alternatives. It’s not easy to classify all of this. But we stick together, and our friends and family also support us enormously.”
In parallel with the fight for Delani’s health, the family has started a fundraising campaign. The proceeds will benefit cancer research. Almost 49,000 euros have been collected on the gofundme.com platform so far (as of October 15, 9 a.m.). The goal is 60,000 euros.
