New in the hearing is information from the telephone of one of A.’s brothers. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this offers a revealing insight into how the violence was discussed within the group. There is a proud reference to the first shooting incident in Middenbeemster: “Five men arrive, ultimately five men run away.”

And under photos of a seriously injured rival DF, after an attack in prison, his brother writes menacingly, according to the justice department: “Come ring the doorbell, you will be splashed (stabbed, ed.).”

Innocents hit several times

What started on April 11, 2023 as an argument at the front door of A.’s parental home in Middenbeemster, grew into a week of violence: shootings, explosions at homes and retaliation in which innocent residents were also affected.

The public prosecutor concludes: “They show no remorse and do not open up, because the reason for all this violence is still unclear to this day.”

Main suspect Zakaria A., against whom the most serious accusations are directed, spoke extensively in court on Tuesday. He denies any involvement in the violence, but according to the Public Prosecution Service, taps, camera images and forensic evidence show a different picture.

The rival group, which according to justice was responsible for the counter-attacks, was already on trial last week. The Public Prosecution Service demanded against those five suspects prison sentences of up to fourteen years. The verdict in both cases is expected on December 5.
