HENSOLDT is driving forward the development of unmanned systems
German sensor specialist HENSOLDT announced a strategic partnership with UAV developer AVILUS on Monday. The aim of the collaboration is to develop state-of-the-art unmanned aviation systems (UAV) “Made in Germany”. The combination of the powerful HENSOLDT sensors with the “MissMarvin” mission operating system from AVILUS is intended to create scalable platforms that cover both military and civilian operational scenarios.
The systems rely on multispectral sensing and AI-supported real-time processing to detect, classify and track objects. HD thermal imaging, color, SWIR and wide-angle cameras are used, which are available at the same time and can be controlled via a precise 4-axis gimbal. The system is complemented by the AMPS-M defense module with integrated protection mechanisms against missile, laser and radar threats, as well as the software-defined X-band radar “PrecISR”, which can detect up to 1,000 targets simultaneously.
According to HENSOLDT, the cooperation strengthens Germany’s ability to build up its own UAV competencies and develop key technologies independently of foreign providers. The first demonstration projects are already in preparation.
Technological sovereignty as a strategic goal
With this collaboration, both companies underline their goal of further expanding Germany’s role in modern defense technology. “Together we rely on technological sovereignty and short paths from development to operational readiness,” explained Christina Canitz, head of the Optronics division at HENSOLDT, according to the press release.
AVILUS CEO Ernst Rittinghaus emphasized that the systems are intended to specifically close capability gaps in logistics, reconnaissance and transport of the wounded. The partnership is part of HENSOLDT’s strategy to create flexible, scalable systems for future operations through “Software Defined Defense” – from border security to disaster control.
Defense stocks remain strong but volatile
There was no consistent trend for defense stocks on the stock exchanges on Monday. While HENSOLDT shares ultimately rose by 0.57 percent to 105.70 euros, Rheinmetall shares were trading 0.13 percent lower at 1,879.50 euros at the beginning of the week and RENK shares lost 1.81 percent to 74.84 euros.
Over the year, the three values are still clearly in the black: Rheinmetall around 206 percent, RENK over 315 percent and HENSOLDT more than 200 percent. Despite short-term fluctuations, the trend in the industry is considered stable. The increasing demand for defense technologies and new international orders ensure that defense companies continue to have full order books.
