After the Club World Cup and the Champions League, SC Magdeburg celebrated a clear win against Bergischer HC in their first home game in two and a half weeks. The basis for the success was a 7-0 run after the break. This means that coach Bennet Wiegert’s team remains unbeaten in front of their home crowd for the 35th time across all competitions and seasons.

SC Magdeburg has achieved its next success in the handball Bundesliga. The Elbestadt team won against Bergischer HC on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,600 spectators with 39:30 (19:16). The best Magdeburg shooters were Elvar Örn Jonsson and Omar Ingi Magnusson with seven goals each, plus goalkeeper Matej Mandic made 14 saves. In the league, the SCM is in third place with just one minus point, but has played one game less than leaders Flensburg and two fewer than second-placed Gummersbach.

Magdeburg starts with concentration

Magdeburg started defensively concentrated, fended off the first BHC attacks and quickly led with four goals (4:0/6th). The guests then increased their attack and shortened the score, also because the SCM completed some attacks hastily and inaccurately (7:6/14th). The Magdeburg defense lacked access at times, but the Elbestadters were still able to pull away easily (12:8/19.). Until the break, the SCM missed a bigger lead and missed too often at the front.

BHC fights its way up – SCM with a 7-0 run

At the beginning of the second half, the BHC benefited from goalkeeper saves and reduced the score to just one goal (20:19/33.). But the SCM knew how to improve again and took a clear lead with a 7-0 run (28:20/41.). Despite the big deficit, the guests didn’t give up and prevented an even bigger defeat.
