«VI want to make a single statement which I ask you to publish because transparency is the soul of justice. Eva Kailī was placed in solitary confinement on the orders of the investigating judge Michel Claise. For sixteen hours she was in a police cell, not prison, and in the cold. She was denied a second blanket, they took her coat away. The light in the room was always on, preventing her from sleeping, she was in her menstrual cycle, with heavy bleeding, and she was not allowed to wash. This is torture. Eva Kailī is under accusation, but I remind everyone that the presumption of innocence exists. We are in Europe. And this is a clear violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. They are medieval ways. Please publish this news. I hope that Ms. Kailī will be entitled to a fair trial.” It’s January 19, 2023.

40 days have passed since the cyclone of the Qatargate scandal hit the European Parliament. The statement by the lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos makes it clear the prison conditions in which the vice-president of that Parliament, accused of corruption, finds herself forced. An odyssey that will last until May 25, 2023 when the Greek deputy will be released, albeit subject to some conditions.

The judge who had ordered his capture was forced to abandon the investigation when he suspected he had acted for private interests and managed the file with objectives different from those foreseen by the law has become evident. And that was enough to demonstrate that the investigation was a resounding flop.

It tells of the war of spies, businessmen and corrupt politicians that took place behind this case of international importance.

“The Sin of Eve” by Lodovica Bulian and Giuseppe Guastella (Fuoriscena).

It highlights the tragedy of a 2-year-old girl – daughter of the two arrested men – who suddenly finds herself forced to live without her parents, despite the laws that impose precise guarantees for cases of this kind. And so it centers the problem that is created when justice loses humanity.
