For the 36-year-old Italian (who won the 2015 and 2017 editions) success in the sprint ahead of the Frenchman Christophe Laporte and the Danish Withen Philipsen
Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling) won the Paris-Tours, one of the oldest classics in the world, in a sprint, prevailing over the French Christophe Laporte and the 19-year-old Danish Withen Philipsen, second a few days ago at the Tre Valli Varesine. For the 36-year-old Italian it is the third victory in the race, after those achieved in 2015 and 2017, and the first in this season which is now over.

In the lead until the last kilometre, there were two Frenchmen, Paul Lapeira and Thibaud Gruel, who however exceeded their mutual control (“It was a bit stupid looking at each other in the final, but I wanted to win and not come second. I wanted him to lead the sprint and I was behind. And he told me: you’re at home, it’s up to you to take responsibility”, he explained at the finish Gruel), facilitating the return of a small group of pursuers. Trentin took advantage of this, dominating the sprint. “It was a very tough race but to win again here ten years after the first time is incredible and I am truly very very happy”, commented the Trentino runner.
