Premier Padel: great comeback by Chingotto-Galan over Coello-Tapia (2-6, 6-3, 6-0). Josemaria-Sanchez queens, Fernandez-Gonzalez beaten easily (6-2, 6-4)
Six thousand spectators in a sold out Allianz Cloud for the finals, 35,500 total spectators in the week of P1: Milan responded once again, scoring the best audience result since the Premier Padel circuit stopped here. And whoever was there – Fognini, Panatta, Dybala among the many who crowded the stands – certainly had fun on the day that crowned Chingotto-Galan and Josemaria-Sanchez as winners of the tournament.

The tenth match between the two best couples in the world, in the men’s field, saw Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia get off to a flying start, surprising Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan. The 6-2 of the first set, achieved in less than half an hour, does not even give an idea of the difficulties of the “Chingalan” in the attempt to stem the excessive power and frenetic pace of their opponents. When everything was predicting a quick epilogue in favor of the number 1 seeds, the challenge suddenly turns. Chingotto and Galan survived their opponents’ quick break attempt at the beginning of the second set, found a way to undermine Coello and gradually took control of the game. They are the ones who get a very precious break that sends them 3-0, and then defend the acquired advantage with their teeth, frustrating the reaction of Arturo and Agus. That break is worth 6-3 in the second set, but above all it certifies that the inertia of the match has totally changed. Coello makes error after error even at the start of the third set, Galan becomes relentless with smashes while not even Tapia’s genius finds solutions. It was a prolonged break for the number 1s, the Chingalans flew away without obstacles and sensationally dominated the rest of the match, finishing 6-0 (Coello and Tapia had never conceded one).

Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez’s is a first: never before have they managed to win in Milan. Helped in part by the injury that took Gemma Triay out of the tournament, Paula and Ari nevertheless demonstrated that they are clearly recovering, after a few months of summer confusion. And of being a sumptuous couple number 2 in the world, not at all resigned to the idea of having definitively lost the throne of the FIP ranking. Against the number 3 seeds, in an all-Spanish derby, Josemaria-Sanchez immediately put the younger Claudia Fernandez and Bea Gonzalez under from a tactical point of view, also showing greater continuity in the various phases of the match. The first set almost didn’t exist, 6-2 in an instant, with Bea particularly fouled in the diagonal with Ari. Same music for most of the second, with a single jolt that brought Bea and Claudia back from 2-5 to 4-5: Paula and Ari, however, did not fall apart in the tenth game, canceling the break points that could have reopened the games, before the final celebration.
