Merz and Costa also go to Egypt for an international summit on Gaza

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Antonio Costa of the EU leaders will also travel to Egypt on Monday to participate in the international peace summit discussing the future of Gaza.
“Germany will be committed to implementing the peace plan, with an initial focus on maintaining a stable ceasefire and providing humanitarian aid. The Chancellor underlines this commitment with his trip tomorrow,” said a statement from the German government.
Costa represents the European Union with his participation. The Middle East Peace Plan “offers a real opportunity to build a just and lasting peace, and the EU is fully committed to supporting these efforts and contributing to their implementation,” a spokesperson said.

The summit will take place on Monday in the seaside resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and will be chaired by US President Donald Trump and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah al-Sisi. It was previously announced that French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres, among others, will also travel to Egypt.
