Representative Lorena Villaverde returned to the center of the scene this week, involved in a wave of calls for her resignation, added to information about her ties to the businessman accused of drug trafficking Federico “Fred” Machado.
After the fall of José Luis Espert, pressure grew in the ruling party for the Rio Negro representative from La Libertad Avanza to also step down from her candidacy for the Senate. The questions were reactivated due to his links with businessman Claudio “Lechuga” Ciccarelli, Machado’s cousin, identified in local investigations as his partner in mining ventures.
Villaverde denied all the accusations, claimed to have a “clean record” and said he had submitted a rhinoscopy to prove that he never used drugs. She had a case for drug dealing in the United States.
Despite the scandal, she continues touring the province and maintains her candidacy to be senator, while in the libertarian environment the voices that demand her removal to avoid a new political cost multiply.
