The American designer Jeremy Scott, in cooperation with Swarovski, designed a total of 100 stage costumes for the new production of the show “Blinded by Delight” for the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin. After Jean Paul Gaultier for “Falling in Love,” Jeremy Scott is now the second designer with whom Swarovski is collaborating for the Grand Show at the Friedrichstadt-Palast.
The show will be on display in Berlin until July 2027 and shows three main scenes of outfits from the collaboration that are decorated with crystals all over and are intended to literally “dazzle” the audience. “For me, Swarovski crystals are a creative super power. I love the glow, the radiance and the certain extra that they give to every design,” says designer Jeremy Scott, whose collections Swarovski crystals have been an integral part of since his early beginnings.
One of the highlights of the show is the scene with two Swarovski Chandelier Dresses, which was first shown by singer Katy Perry at the MET Gala in 2019. A total of 200,000 Swarovski crystals make the chandelier dresses shine. In another scene with 32 dancers, four million crystals sparkle in competition.
Jeremy Scott says about working with the Swarovski manufacturer: “That’s the magic of Swarovski. You work with the best – and you don’t have to worry about production or feasibility. Only the exact application of the crystals was finalized by me. For Blinded By Delight, I designed the costumes in such a way that they will hopefully open the door to a dream world for the audience.”
The production is also related to Swarovski’s 130th anniversary year and the brand’s long tradition of producing stage outfits. 90 years ago, for example, the brand outfitted Marlene Dietrich as a showgirl with crystal-studded costumes on the stage of the Friedrichstadt-Palast and continues to work with numerous other stars today, from Marilyn Monroe to Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
