The next shock went through the club at 1860 Munich. Now the club has found a new coach.
TSV 1860 Munich is relying on an experienced man in the fight for access to the top group of the 3rd league: Markus Kauczinski is taking over as coach of the Munich Lions. As the club announced, the 55-year-old will look after the team from next Monday.
Kauczinski is supported by a team of trainers. This consists of Markus Brzenska and Nico Masetzky as assistant coaches, Philipp Kunz as athletic trainer and René Vollath, who looks after the goalkeepers.
“In my previous positions I was able to get to know the work in large, traditional clubs,” said Kauczinski. “I’m now really looking forward to the task at TSV 1860 Munich. When we start training together on Monday, it’s important to work out the team’s strengths and send them into the home game against MSV Duisburg full of self-confidence and well prepared.”
Kauczinski began his coaching career in the youth team at FC Schalke 04. With Karlsruher SC he became third division champion in 2012/13 and narrowly missed making it to the Bundesliga in 2014/15. He later looked after FC Ingolstadt, FC St. Pauli and Dynamo Dresden, among others. Most recently, he achieved promotion to the 2nd league with SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the 2022/23 season after a successful relegation against Arminia Bielefeld.
“I am very pleased that, after intensive coordination with both shareholders, we can present a new head coach who is recognized by everyone involved as the best person for TSV 1860 Munich,” explained interim managing director Manfred Paula.
The situation with the lions is tense. After just one point from the last five games, the team slipped to 13th place. The gap to the top places in the table is growing. This makes a successful debut for Kauczinski on October 19th against current league leaders MSV Duisburg all the more important.
Interim coach Alper Kayabunar had previously taken on responsibility. The coach of the Bayernliga team initially drew 2-2 against Viktoria Köln, then lost 1-0 at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. It was clear from the start that his activity would be limited to two games.
There were also changes in the club’s management: In addition to coach Patrick Glöckner, managing director Christian Werner had to leave. In the future, the responsibilities within the management will be reorganized. The club is planning, among other things, to introduce a commercial manager and to hire a sports director and a technical director.
