Angela de Jong is very disappointed in the men of Today Inside. She thinks that the gentlemen really failed during the broadcast with Frans Timmermans. “Then don’t invite politicians.”
You can really wonder whether Today Inside has anything to gain from inviting the party leaders. Somehow Wilfred Genee never manages to make nice TV out of it and Johan Derksen is only critical when his victims are not at the table. And René van der Gijp? He doesn’t care at all when it comes to politics.
Hot bath
Angela de Jong believes that the VI trio should be ashamed of the poor broadcast with Frans Timmermans. “I think it was very nice for Frans Timmermans that he ended up in such a warm bath. I don’t think he expected it,” says the AD opinion diva in her Media Podcast.
Podcast host Manuel Venderbos: “Those men were completely turned off. If someone is there, they are nice, but if he is gone, they burn him down. Isn’t that a shame?”
Not surprising
It’s typical VI, says Angela. “Yes, we have known that for some time, of course. I don’t know, maybe it was in that pie he handed out,” she says. “I didn’t get anything out of it either: I am surprised by a new thing. Sometimes Wilfred can poke and suck and pretend that someone is seduced by something.”
“Sometimes a vigorous discussion can be very nice, right? It just puts people on edge, but I didn’t think they were all that interested in it. Then Bas Nijhuis at the bar?”
‘Very boring’
Media journalist Marcus den Blanken believes that VI is underperforming. “You miss Merel Ek or Thomas van Groningen or Raymond Mens in such a broadcast. It was very boring. René van der Gijp said almost nothing. I didn’t laugh.”
Colleague Dennis Jansen: “Yet you keep looking to know if anything is happening and what is happening.”
Marcus: “I have to say: when it came to football I really turned it off. I was tired. I was done. I wasn’t interested anymore.”
Uncomfortable
It seems like laziness, says Angela. “It also feels so easy that at one point he went to Bas Nijhuis, saying: if you were at home, would you have looked further? He felt it himself, of course, but then he would have given it a bit of fire or something. Johan said something, Frans Timmermans could cancel his election campaign.”
Marcus: “It was just a boring interview.”
Angela: “I really wonder whether they should want it. I understand that it is a very nice platform for politicians, because you have a million viewers who you don’t easily attract, so anything you win is a bonus, but the program is not improving.”
‘We miss Jack!’
Dennis believes that the power of VI is that it is normally surprising. “You actually hope for something unpredictable or unexpected.”
Marcus thinks the gentlemen may be exhausted. “So we actually missed Jack van Gelder.”
How Telegraaf journalist Wouter de Winter views it? He concludes in the podcast Hammering away: “They prefer to talk about Frans Timmermans when he is not there than to say it to their faces, I think.”
