“When does the note come out like this, does my mother buy the magazine?” he asks. Mora Fisz while telling how proud his parents are now that the viral phenomenon of “The Eternaut”. And I say “a little” because while we are doing this interview I hear two girls say: “That’s Juan Salvo’s daughter.”
Mora is an actress and singer, although she had been one of the protagonists in the Disney series “Tierra incógnita”, playing Clara, the daughter of Ricardo Darín and Carla Peterson in “El Eternauta”, was a great success that marked the beginning of a new stage more exposed to the media.
Her role as a singer grew through perseverance and work. Her songs in the strip “Buenos Chicos” and in the movie “Nahir” found an audience that accompanied her at Quilmes Rock and will surely do so again when she stands on stage at the next one. Lollapalooza. While that moment arrives, we can see and listen to his single “Vuelo a vos”, or enjoy his beautiful cover of “Paisaje” on his YouTube channel. Mora is pure future.
News: You are developing a musical career in parallel with acting, in fact you will be part of the next Lollapalooza, how do you reconcile the two worlds?
Mora Fisz: The truth is that they are quite different worlds. In acting, for example, in the case of “El Eternauta”, you are part of a project that is much bigger than you, you simply go and play a small role. Afterwards, everything else does not depend on you, the press, the advertising, all of this is done by a large production company that puts in a lot of money and thanks to that the project has visibility. In the case of music, particularly in my situation, I am in Costes, an independent production company that is starting, so it is much more free-range. You have to get into it and row it, but also on the other hand, I feel it is more personal. I write my songs, I make the decisions about the covers and the aesthetics in general, obviously surrounded by a team, but I am the one who puts the final word because the product that comes out is mine, I am creating it. Sometimes I suffer, I am so detail-oriented! (series)
News: Are you very perfectionist?
Fisz: Oh yes, too much. And in music you are a bit the director of the project. I can’t help it, I’m in all the details of the song, how I want it to be, how it sounds, it matters a lot to me because for me songs are like my babies (laughs) I want to make a project that I’m proud of, to be able to feel that I’m making music that I like, that represents me, that I would listen to, if it weren’t mine.
News: Actors who are also singers say that in music you have to push it harder, is that true?
Fisz: Yes it’s true. Luckily I had some songs with a listening base for which I am very grateful, they reached people that I would not have even imagined considering that we are talking about the first project of an emerging artist. Maybe I feel that I have not yet reached the place where I would like to be as an artist, that of being able to do a show and know what I am going to attract, that the public is going to come and fill a theater, that is a dream that I have.
News: How do you imagine that moment?
Fisz: Ugh, it’s what I love most as an artist! I’ve gone to a lot of festivals as a spectator and I thought: “Hey, what will it be like to be on the other side?” When I had to sing at Quilmes Rock I realized everything that moves behind it, the costume fitting, the lights, the sound, the last minute runs… Obviously I was somatic and in the previous one I had a terrible sore throat (laughs). But the time of the show arrived and I gave it my all up there, I believed I was a star even though nothing could be further from the truth, you need to believe it a little to be able to stand on stage.
News: On their YouTube channel there are many comments about the songs that were part of the “Good Guys” series. Were you able to capitalize on that television window?
Fisz: Yes, being part of “Good Boys” with my songs was great and also unforgettable, think that unfortunately until now that was the last series that appeared as a daily strip on open television, I watched Polka strips all my life, that is strange. “Good Boys” didn’t break it with the ratings, but it had a very intense niche of fans, they followed it every day and listened to the songs, which I didn’t expect. I didn’t know that my songs “A Thousand Things” and “4 AM” were going to identify one of the most important love stories. People were very impressed, I received beautiful messages that continue to this day.
News: Since we’re talking about comments on the networks, how did you deal with the massive reactions that “El Eternauta” generated?
Fisz: That was strong because it is not that they are commenting on a video, but rather that entire countries react to what you did in a series like that. I feel that before the premiere I was not sufficiently prepared for what ended up happening, I believed that many people were going to see it, but it was impossible to measure what happened. Furthermore, although my character is important in terms of the plot, he appears little in the first season and I did not think I would receive so many comments… from the good and the bad. “El Eternaut” managed to reach all types of audiences: children, adults, older people, men and women. I started to see that the networks were filled with birthdays themed to the series, for example, it was really crazy! At first it was a little difficult for me to be fully aware of the impact, the situation overwhelmed me, in two weeks your life changes a little and you are not prepared. You can’t process why you suddenly receive so much hate and also so much love, I needed to talk to my fellow cast members and ask Carla Peterson and Andrea Pietra what’s up…
News: And what did they answer?
Fisz: That “El Eternauta” means a lot to all Argentines, it is not just any series and so the reactions are not either. It was very intense, now looking back I feel kind of naïve, because before “The Eternaut” premiered I was in a fantasy world, confused thinking: “Oh, the series is premiering, how exciting, how beautiful, everything is happiness and colors” and it was a phenomenon for which I was not ready. Now that the foam has subsided, the enjoyment remains.
News: How are we coming for the second season?
Fisz: And I don’t know, it seems like there’s a long way to go, but Ariel Staltari promised that my character grows! (laughs) He is divine, as is the entire team. Among the young actors we became very friends, we have our own WhatsApp group, “Los Eterkids”, we are always in contact. We also met Carla Peterson again, she is a sun, at the time we all went to see her at the theater when she was doing “Reverso”. She is very loving, she is my fictional mother. There was a screening of “El Eternauta” at the Galpón Piedrabuenarte, a cultural space where boys and girls from Lugano meet, Netflix gave them a projector and we were both there. That’s the spectacular part, they welcomed us with open arms, we watched the series, they gave away posters, we signed them, it was really nice and Carlita is the best.
News: Before “El Eternauta”, you had only done the series “Tierra incognita”. Have any doors opened for you or do you have to re-cast?
Fisz: Some possibilities arose, I did my first advertising, for example, and I loved it. I’m already doing castings again, hey! I am still an actress who is just starting out. At the time I was lucky enough to fall into a project as enormous as “El Eternauta” and I appreciate it with all my heart, but I still do not feel that I am in a prominent place in the profession, for me this is the beginning. When you go to a casting you continue with the same nervousness that you had before, there was some callback so I’m waiting, I know it takes time, let’s see if they call me and specify something, I hope it happens!
News: You had told me on another occasion that your dream was to make a musical, is that goal still valid?
Fisz: Oh yes! I love musical theater with all my being, I enjoy it, it amuses me and I would like nothing more than to do one of those spectacular productions. I had an experience with the one-off feature of “My Ant Friend,” but my goal is to do a season. Theater in general drives me crazy, they invited us to see “Rocky” and it was incredible, the same thing happened to me with “Empieza con D”, the play by Juan José Campanella, it is great. I met Campanella on Mirtha Legrand’s show, I say this and it’s hard for me to believe (smiles) But going back to the musical, imagine doing something like “The Little Mermaid” or “Dear Evan.” Now that I said “Dear Evan” I also remembered “When Frank Met Carlitos”, because in both of them there was Alan Madanes who destroys it. In my family we are already fans!
