Former Hertha BSC professional Marcelinho is in hospital after a serious operation. He addresses the fans with emotional words.

A picture from the hospital bed moves Hertha-BSC fans. Club icon Marcelinho reports from the clinic with a personal message after a medical procedure.

The former Bundesliga midfielder is undergoing hospital treatment following thyroid surgery. In an Instagram post, the 50-year-old shows himself lying on a hospital bed with his eyes closed and addresses the treating team of doctors with words of thanks. He writes: “Still recovering, I would like to thank those responsible for the operation, diagnosis and follow-up care.”

Marcelinho was in Berlin just a few weeks ago. In September he opened a new football field in Charlottenburg together with ex-Bayern player Claudio Pizarro. He was already a guest at the Olympic Stadium in May when he was honored as a flag bearer at the home game against Greuther Fürth. Back then, Hertha introduced him as a kind of ambassador for the club.

As part of this honor, he emphasized that he had fundamentally changed his life in recent years. According to Marcelinho, he has not consumed alcohol for six years and wants to be a role model for the children he trains.

The Brazilian receives numerous well wishes from fans via social networks. Many supporters are hoping that the club legend’s health will improve soon.
