After months of speculation, it’s now official: EA Sports FC 27 will be released on September 25, 2026. The successor to EA Sports FC 26 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Notably, the title will also be offered for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, albeit lacking numerous new features.
Release Details and Editions
As is tradition, EA will offer multiple editions, including the Standard and Ultimate Editions. This year, a new variant called Ultimate Plus will be available but only until August 31.
Cover Stars
Once again, EA has chosen one of the biggest names in world football for the cover: Kylian Mbappé returns as the title star. The French superstar was a key figure in the previous iteration and remains integral to FC 27’s marketing. Additionally, Jude Bellingham makes his third consecutive appearance as a cover athlete for an EA FC title.
Exciting New Features Revealed
Among the most significant updates is a brand-new open-world mode. This feature aims to expand beyond traditional gameplay, providing a more comprehensive football experience. The trailer showcases different areas such as the Parkside District, Montclair District, and Zeiza District, each offering its own atmosphere and activities.
Interactive Gameplay
Various activities, challenges, and competitions will be available, ranging from casual street games to high-profile matches. Players will be supported by football personalities like Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, and Paulo Dybala, who will serve as mentors in player development.
Career Mode Enhancements
Classic career mode will also see extensive improvements. While specific details weren’t disclosed in the trailer, rumors suggest a revamped transfer and scouting system. More emphasis will be placed on team hierarchies thanks to dynamic player value development and increased options for long-term club building.
Gameplay and Comfort Improvements
The first trailer highlighted EA’s vision for a more realistic gaming experience with enhanced tactical options. Notable features include an overhauled aerial ball balance, improved offside controls, and new passing mechanics like “Pass and Follow” and “Curved Underflow” that aim to provide better control and dynamism.
Ultimate Team Features
EA Sports FC Ultimate Team (FUT) will once again see numerous adjustments, including the integration of over 30 new Icons, Heroes, and Hall-of-Fame players. Players may also gain more options for individual card development through a newly proposed SBC system offering greater flexibility.
Licenses and Teams
In terms of licensing, EA continues to stick to its established path, ensuring that the most important international leagues remain available. The game will feature 21,000 professionals from over 800 clubs and national teams across 140 stadiums and over 35 leagues. Notably, the Mexican League makes its return, while the Brazilian League will not be included.
Prices and Early Access
Buyers of the Ultimate and Ultimate+ Editions will enjoy early access, with gameplay starting as early as September 18, 2026, a week before the official release. The Ultimate+ Edition also comes with additional perks, including Premium Passes for Seasons 1 to 5, 10,000 FC Points, and an ICON Pack featuring over 85 nations.
