The new coach Uwe Rösler wants to bring the crisping second division club VfL Bochum back on the road to success. “I have already taken over clubs under similar conditions in the past. I trust my experience and my gut feeling. My goal is to create the turnaround as quickly as possible,” said the 56-year-old, whose contract is dated until summer 2027, at his inaugural press conference.
Rösler has almost two weeks during the international break to turn the right adjustment screws. “I know about my responsibility. In the pot, football is not just a fan, but religion,” said Rösler. His focus is on bringing his new team to a high level of intensity – with a lot of willingness to run – and at the same time also working on defensive behavior.
“The spirit in the team is absolutely there, that also convinced me to sign here,” said the new coach. Rösler will make his debut in the home game against Hertha BSC on October 18 (8:30 p.m.). “The team needs a sense of achievement for self -confidence. We have to try to work out.” It is also important to bring back the fans with success and services.
Zoller and Riedle support Rösler at VfL Bochum
The new trainer receives support from a former VfL professional. “Simon Zoller will move closer to the professional team and work closely with Uwe Rösler. In what exact role will be announced,” said Managing Director Ilja Kaenzig. The task as a license manager is in the room. The association had already confirmed in April that the ex-striker will take on a task at VfL in the future. Subsequently, Zoller went through a trainee program on Castroper Straße.

Rösler also receives a new assistant coach with Alessandro Riedle. The 34-year-old, most recently assistant to ex-HSV coach Ricardo Moniz at FC Zurich, follows Murat Ural, who leaves the Bochumer. “I was looking for a assistant coach who comes from a slightly different generation than me, a young coach who was still able to gain experience in the professional area,” said Rösler. “Alessandro received top references from everywhere, and from the first contact we noticed that we have a similar view of football.”
Most recently, VfL had remained pointless in three games under U19 coach David Siebers. With just one win in eight games, the Bundesliga relegation is the penultimate. In mid -September, the club separated from coach Dieter Hecking and sports director Dirk Dufner. In the leadership, the Bochumers are considering the role of the sports director in the future. According to the “Picture“Maximilian Hahn, who is currently working as Head of Technical Recruitment and Analysis at West Ham United.
Accordingly, talks are already underway between VfL Bochum and the 29-year-old, who was able to gain experience in the field of scouting and data analysis at Werder Bremen and Darmstadt 98 before his commitment to England. Hahn is considered a big expert for new technologies. West Ham would have to give him approval for a change.
